With wrinkles crawling through her pale-yellow face, you can see the marks of which life has bestowed on her. It has never been easy for this woman. Mdm Ang Kiat Bo endured through all the challenges life has given her and now lived at an age of 66. With her looks people might be thinking that she is just a typical Chinese woman but trust me, she’s not.

Mdm Ang is more than just your classic woman. She was born into a poor family in Hubei, Chinese. Forced to work on the streets at the age of just 12, she has to fight for a living with people 10 or 20 years older than her. Supporting her handicapped father and a family of 7, it was never a stress-free life for this woman. However, she had a dream. A dream so big, everyone thought it could not be achievable.

She wanted to be a doctor. A professional doctor. But with such a poor income and no support given, her dreams were shattered when she found out that at the age of just 16, she had to be married off to a family at Teochew, China. It was rumoured that Teochew was not a pleasant place to be in. But judging by what her life has been, this was just another hurdle for her to jump over.

Married to a man who was 20 years old older than her, there was a communication barrier between the two. But that was just a mere problem in the list of difficulties this marriage has caused her. Unable to conceive a child in her first two years of her marriage, her In-laws labelled her as a “barren pig”. Her husband, Mr. Lee Kuat was a gambling and smoking addict. His income was just nice for the family but however due to his gambling addiction; there was never enough money for the family.

This resulted in her having to go out to society to work. During the times of her earning a living for her family, she was pregnant. It was a joyous and happy occasion for the Lee Family as they finally have an offspring to carry the family name. However, before the child has been born. Her husband has passed away. He died of lung cancer. She decided to name her child, Lee En Ci. En ci means giving thanks and she wants him to remember that the sole reason of why he is in the face of this planet is due to the life his father has given him.
